Spring Clean Your Skin's Routine
February 21, 2019
Hey hey, babes!
I don’t want to jinx it, but the groundhog did say that Spring is on it’s way. Usually this time of year means we throw open the windows, bust out the broom and duster and clean the house top to bottom. And I’m sure with the popularity of Marie Kondo, many are eager to get started on chucking the stuff that doesn’t “spark joy”, as it were.
Now, cleaning house may be one way to welcome Spring, but have you ever considered Spring cleaning your routine? More specifically, your skincare routine? When the seasons shift, it’s time to start thinking about ways your can nourish your skin with the new conditions outside. Here’s a few of our favourite tips to help you Spring Clean your skin’s routine!
1. Clean your Brushes, girl!
Let’s be honest, a lot of us have probably been using the same makeup brushes for a long time. And if that’s the case, you’ve likely neglected cleaning them for… well, let’s not dwell on the amount of time passed. Instead, let’s start our spring cleaning by giving those brushes a good wash!
There are lots of great brush cleaners out there, but a personal favourite is the solid cleanser from Beauty Blender (which you can find in salon!). Once you’ve given them a good scrub, leave them to air dry.
2. And while you’re at it, clean out your makeup bag!
Let’s be real: makeup, especially high quality makeup isn’t exactly cheap. So we’re more likely to hang on to it, even if it’s past the best before date.
Since you’re cleaning house anyway, you may as well get rid of some of that makeup that has seen better days. Need some guidelines?
Mascara should be disposed of after 3-4 months, liquid foundation after a year, lip gloss after 6 months, lipstick after a year, and powders after 18 months to 2 years.
3. Speaking of tossing products, now’s a great time to revamp your skincare routine.
Like our makeup, your skincare products have a shelf life as well. For the most part, keeping these products past their best before date just means that they are less effective. However, as the warmer weather begins to set in, it’s time to rethink what our skin needs.
Switching your cleanser from cream based to gel or water based is a great start, and switching your moisturiser to something a little lighter can help keep oil down.
4. Literally clean out your skin!
All this dry weather can do a number on your skin. When the seasons change, we always recommend a facial to help set the stage for great skin in the new weather. This is especially true after the bitter cold weather we’ve had.
A SilkPeel is a great option for the seasonal transition. Not only does it give you a great exfoliation and injects your skin with a serum, it literally sucks all the gunk out of your skin. We will help your choose the serum that’s right for you and will give you the results you’re looking for. And there is no downtime with the SilkPeel, so you can go right back to your day! We’ve talked tons about these facials, so check out the rest of the blog for more info!
