So, You Just got a SilkPeel... Now What?
March 21, 2019
Can you feel it? It’s out there and it’s coming… that’s right Spring is on the way! This is a great time to start thinking about shaking off your winter skin with one of our facials. Winter tends to leave us with a layer of dull, dead skin even if we do keep up a really great skin care routine. Especially with all the harsh weather we had the past few weeks.
We’ve posted in the past about SilkPeels and how they can help you step into Spring with your best skin ever. That being said, we do need to take steps afterwards to make sure that the benefits of the procedure aren’t just wiped away a week or two later.
So, what should you be doing post SilkPeel? Well…
1. Skip the makeup for at least 24 hours.
This might be a no brainer, but it is one of the most important steps in making sure that you get the most out of your SilkPeel. The procedure works by literally sucking dirt and debris from your pores. Applying makeup will essentially clog those pores again and undo all the good the SilkPeel just did. Your skin will be a little sensitive post-peel, so it needs a little time to relax sans makeup.
2. In fact, just skip most of your regular skin care for the first 24 hours… or at least until the next morning.
Once you’ve finally established a good skin care routine it can be hard to just drop it, even if it is for just a day. But with SilkPeel, a serum is injected into the skin to address whatever skin issues you want help with. That serum needs time to do its job, and when you apply extra products it can inhibit it from really working. Plus, it’s hard to say how these products will interact with the serum. Skipping one day of your skin care routine won’t hurt, but sticking to it rigidly immediately after your facial could impede you from getting the results you want or even cause an adverse reaction.
3. Sunscreen, baby!
I know that we haven’t gotten that summer sunshine (yet!), but UVA and UVB rays are still very much able to affect your skin. Plus, your skin will be a little more sensitive than normal as the layer of dead skin has been taken off. Now, for the first 24 hours just leave your skin alone. If you’re going to be going out into the sun, grab a baseball cap to keep the sun off of your freshly peeled skin. After the initial 24 hour period, start making it a part of your regular routine to apply sunscreen every morning and anytime you’ll be out in the sun.
4. Drink your H2O!
Water does some really incredible things for our entire body, and especially our skin. Water has detoxifying properties and can help keep your skin hydrated from the inside. Your silkpeel has just done a bunch of work to get dirt and particles out of your pores as well as clearing away dead, dry skin. To help keep your skin nice and soft, keep up with your water intake. Aim for 8 cups a day or more if your particularly active or it’s hot outside.
5. Get Another SilkPeel!
I mean, not like the next day or anything crazy. Usually four week in between peels is the ideal amount of time. This is especially true if you have never had one before or if your skin issues are quite difficult. Your esthetician will give you some direction on approximately how many treatments you may need, and which serums they would recommend to help you get the results you’re looking for!
6. If you didn’t have a consistent skin care routine before, get one going now!
Getting a SilkPeel and then skipping any sort of skin care routine afterwards is a bit backwards, don’t you think? Twenty-four hours after a SilkPeel is a great time to start a new routine if you don’t have one in place! Since your SilkPeel technician will be getting up close and personal with your skin, they are a great person to ask what you should be looking for in your products. Get a good routine in place and stick to it!
